Late 1800s Era WoodMetal Lathe

800 USD

We don't have a lot of information on this machine, other than what we have been told by a couple of historian friends. This is a Lathe and Morse lathe that has been dated as being 1885 to 1891 vintage. It is especially rare in that it was built for turning both wood and metal. To the best of our knowledge, all the parts that go with the wood lathe are here, including nuts, bolts, tailstock and many ornamental bits. There may be other parts necessary to make it function as a metal lathe. There appears to have been NO repairs made to the cast iron - the legs and other load bearing parts show no signs of welding or other repair processes. A little gentle cleaning was started a few years ago, but it was stopped when we were advised the metal should be left with the patina that has developed over the years.

This is a very rare and unusual piece of history. We're sure there is a collector out there who needs this machine to complete a collection. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. We will do our best to answer them, or find someone who can. We can take detailed photos of areas that are not sufficiently clear in the pictures above.

The lathe is 78" long, and 42" deep. The legs are bolted to the frame, and can easily be removed. We estimate this machine weighs between 1500 and 1800 lbs. We have a fork lift to facilitate lifting, moving and loading the lathe.

Only the lathe itself, and any parts that belong to the lathe are included in this sale - any non-related parts that appear in the pictures are not included.

We will help you load the lathe into your truck, or into your shipping agent's truck. We could negotiate to ship it in our truck, but only locally. Machine is located in Attleboro, Massachusetts.
